Yesterday morning, we loaded up the Durango and returned to Newberry. This time, our destination was Newberry College, where Blake had been invited by the coaching staff to come meet the coaches, take a tour of the campus, and watch the game against Carson-Newman. The recruiting coordinator and special teams coach told Blake that they had been at his game Friday night. They told him he had a strong leg (Blake is the kicker and punter for Ninety Six) and invited him to send more film of him kicking off the ground, since a kicking tee is not allowed in college football. Everyone was very friendly and the campus nice. After the tour, we entered the stadium where Blake was allowed to stand on the sideline with other recruits and watch Newberry warm up before the game. The game was very exciting, as Newberry fought back from behind to tie the game at 21-21 with only seconds remaining. Carson-Newman went on offense first in overtime and failed to score. Newberry scored a touchdown on the ensuing possession to win 27-21. We had a great time.
